Earthside Newborn Sessions

During the past 15 years as a newborn photographer, I have noticed that parents sometimes desire a more simplified session experience. Posing that is more relaxed and authentic, a session that is stylized yet timeless, and most importantly meaningful and natural images to decorate their home and hearts with.

This is why we have introduced Earthside Newborn Sessions. With these lifestyle newborn sessions our focus is on keeping things more chill and relaxed, while not losing the signature style and emotional impact of our images.

Our regular Newborn Sessions are normally scheduled for 4 hours long, it is rare a session lasts that long, but due to the nature of the posing, and the fact that newborn safety and comfort is our greatest priority, we need the flexibility of that time should we need it. With Earthside Newborn Sessions we schedule only about 60-90 minutes because we use posing that is safe and easy to achieve even when baby is awake. We focus on getting all the details of your little one, their sweet smiles, tiny toe-beans and perfect eyelashes. We will be guiding you into some natural family posing that feels more like a snuggle and less like a pose. You can expect 2 pose set ups for baby, and 3 pose set ups for family.

I will still be posing you, giving you pointers based on lighting and angles, but the rest of it will be up to you to just love on each other. With my tips, I think you will find some extremely stunning moments captured of your beautiful growing family. These sessions normally yield a gallery of a minimum 30 images.

What to Expect

Before The Session

You will be booking your DUE DATE if baby is not here yet when you book. Once baby is here you can contact me to reschedule your session date and time according to your needs and our availability. There is a $200 deposit to book your date and time, and this amount is used towards the price of the session. We will be sending you a prep email before your session to help ensure we have a calm and cooperative newborn (or at least as much as one can expect haha!).

The Session

Your Session is 60-90 minutes, allowing plenty of time for some relaxed newborn posing, capturing the tiniest sweetest details, and getting some lovely emotional and meaningful images of your growing family. We do not overbook our days, so we will have the ability to extend the session if needed, due to baby’s needs.

We welcome Mom & Dad, any siblings and even fur siblings (depending) in these photos as well! :)

We provide all props and outfits for baby, and we love to offer a dress for mama to use, if she is having issues finding an outfit that feels flattering (you are not alone if this is how you feel). The remaining balance for this session will be due after the session is over, an invoice will be emailed to you and we accept e-transfer as payment.

After The Session

We will meet via Zoom where I will reveal to you your beautiful images. It is often a very beautiful and emotional reveal, and it will be during this email that I will explain in detail how to use your gallery, how to download your images, as well as best practices on backing up your images.

FAQ

While most newborn sessions happen within the first three weeks of life, with these sessions, we are going for more relaxed posing so we have a bit more wiggle room when it comes to the age of the newborn.
In our normal newborn sessions, we need baby to be very sleepy in order to achieve the poses safely, in these sessions, due to the more relaxed posing we don’t need baby to be asleep at all!
So because of this, we can book you in to a Earthside Mini Newborn Session until baby is 4 months old!
Due to the popularity of these types of sessions, as well as our limited availability due to the other sessions we offer, we do suggest that you book before baby is born.
But if your baby is already here, don’t hesitate to contact me because I am sure we can try and work you into our schedule.
We would love to also capture your maternity session if you wish! We actually suggest that you book yourself in for The Short Story Experience, which will give you a maternity session, a similar newborn session to the Earthside Sessions AND all of your edited digital images from BOTH sessions. All for less of the cost to get both sessions separately.

I have worked with newborns and infants for almost 15 years now, so I have a lot of practice, patience and perseverance to get your little one ok with being photographed. We do all of our sessions baby led, meaning we follow baby’s cues. So, even if you have your heart set on baby being awake for these photos, if baby is tired we will work to put them to sleep, to ensure you don’t end up with an overtired newborn.
We are a very safety conscious studio, so we make the safety and comfort of your newborn our highest priority. If baby is simply having a rough day, bad gas, colicky or anything like that, we may suggest we reschedule the session to a different date. There are no fees for a reschedule like this, as we understand that babies are unique and so are their needs. We are here to provide you with a beautiful, stress-free experience.
