Art For Humans, By Humans
Let me explain.
When it comes to artistic expression, I believe that the most important element is the human. More specifically the unique point of view that person can bring to any particular piece of art. The artist takes the skills of their craft and allows it to be informed, molded, and transformed by the experiences of their entire life.
If you think about when you are moved by a particular work, it is said that the piece “spoke to you.” You are in dialogue with the artist that created that piece of art. Somehow, some way, that artist’s human experience tapped into something shared, some vital energy, something intangibly HUMAN.
Think of a good book that drew you in, was it because of it’s flashy colourful cover? Sure, maybe that caught your eye, but to be able to actually enjoy the book, it needs more, it needs substance. For me, it is always the characters, the ones that seem similar to me, that I can see myself in and know that I exist, that is what I keep reading for. This is the same feeling that I hope to create with every image I take. A feeling of coming home, seeing yourself and relating and loving what you see. It is a dialogue between us that affirms and elevates the sense of your truth in all its beautiful splendor.
When you choose to work with me, whether it is to capture the excitement and anticipation of your pregnancy, the newness and overwhelming love of welcoming a newborn into the world, or just celebrating the love of your family; you have chosen to work of the human being behind the lens: Reina! For me and my husband (and business partner) this is a sacred trust. Art is collaborative between the artist and the viewer, even more so in portrait photography; for you work with me directly to create beautiful works of art.
